Casting from Chrome can sometimes be confusing. As you open the three-dot menu in the top right and don't see a cast icon, that's when things get confusing.
Well, this is a shared problem. The reality is that Chrome users mix up desktop and mobile functions. On mobile Chrome, there is no universal Cast button in the browser toolbar like on desktop Chrome.
Fortunately, casting from the Chrome mobile browser still works. You can cast a tab from phones to smart TVs. Learn how in the guides below.
As mentioned above, Chrome mobile does not have an in-app cast button. But, some said they have seen it before. What is the truth?
The cast icon on Chrome mobile appears intermittently because it's embedded in supported webpages. The button plays a role of component of that URL's media player.
So, where is the cast button on the Chrome mobile browser?
Typically found in the video control bar, often right of the full screen or volume control.
When will the cast button show?
● Cast receivers (TVs or compatible devices) are available on the same network.
● The webpage offer castable media content (regional differences can prevent its display, even on the same site).
1) Use Webpage-Embedded Cast Button
This option is best for casting websites like YouTube, Netflix, etc. To receive the content, you need a TV with Chromecast support or built-in Google Cast.
Note: Native support is not available for devices such as Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Roku TV. Their proprietary OS prevents seamless casting from mobile web.
2) Use Screen Mirroring
Screen mirror is able for full tab casting. That is to say, you can use screen mirroring feature to cast the entire Chrome browser with all elements visible. This method works on various devices because you can always find compatible tools to implement it.
Hope this clarifies how to achieve mobile browser casting. Let’s move to the how-to part.
Major streaming services and media-rich websites commonly embed the cast button to enable seamless casting from Chrome browser Android, for examples, Plex.tv, Xfinity Stream, etc.
To cast directly from the webpage, make sure that your TV is Chromecast-compatible. It's best to have it built-in. Then, you can start with:
Step 1. Open the URL on your Android Chrome.
Step 2. Turn on your smart TV and use the same network as your Android phone.
Step 3. Tap the Cast icon (usually found in the top right).
Step 4. Select the TV name from the pop up list.
Step 5. Once connected, the video will start playing on your TV.
This method applies if you meet these conditions:
a. Using a TV does not have built-in Chromecast
b. Want to cast any browser tab
c. The page itself has no cast function
Step 1. Buy a Chromecast with Google TV and plug it into your TV.
Step 2. Control the TV with the matching remote and complete the setup of Google Home.
● Use your Android phone to scan the QR code on TV. This will guide you to install the Google Home app.
● Use the same WiFi on both your phone and TV.
● On your phone, tap the “+” icon > Set up device > New device > select the TV. The app will detect available devices automatically. Just wait until the list appears.
● On your TV, a pairing code will appear. Confirm it.
Step 3. Open Google Home > Devices.
Step 4. Tap the TV name under Local Devices.
Step 5. Tap “Cast my screen” after you jump to the detail page.
