SharePlay has been introduced to Apple devices for 4 years now. More and more apps are added to support this Facetime-integrated feature, including OTT streaming service like Disney+. This simplifies watching Disney+ together, despite being in different places.
By its very nature, SharePlay offers live sync and sharing capabilities when having a FaceTime video call, enabling cross-device media playback, screen sharing, and interactive experience.
Let me put it another way. If you want to watch Disney Plus with remote friends, you can initiate a FaceTime video chat and use SharePlay to enjoy the video playing at the same moment.
Sounds great, right? See how to share play Disney Plus below.
1) Subscription of Disney+ Standard/Premium.
Both the FaceTime initiator and joiner must be subscribers.
2) Disney+ app in version 2.8.0 or later.
Both initiator and joiner should have the app installed and sign in.
3) Supported Apple devices: iPhone (iOS 15.1+), iPad (iPadOS 15.1), and Apple TV (tvOS 15.1 ).
Note: Mac devices will not work. Disney+ do not have a dedicated Mac app with SharePlay integration, so you cannot SharePlay Disney+ via Mac.
1) Number of participants: up to 32 people when using their own Disney+ account in a SharePlay session.
If people are using the same Disney+ account on different devices, then only 2-4 people (based on subscription plan) can watch it. Because when streaming content, one Disney+ account can only be used on 2-4 devices at once.
2) Content availability varies by country/region.
If shared content is unavailable in a participant's region, they cannot access it and will receive a notification.
3) Child Accounts: only adult profiles can initiate and participate.
Step 1: Open FaceTime on your iPhone or iPad.
Step 2: Add participants to your FaceTime call and start a session.
● Tap Create Link
If it’s a scheduled call, this will be your first choice. Just send the link to people via Messages, Mail, or other apps. And when you’re ready, tap the link yourself to start the call.
● Tap New FaceTime
This is best for an immediate call. After choosing contacts from your list by tapping the + button, you can start by tapping the video button.
Step 3: Tap the video camera icon.
Step 4: Now open Disney+ as the call activated.
You and the participants should launch the app together.
Step 5: Find the movie or show you want to watch. Tap Play.
Step 6: A pop-up will appear: Do you want to use SharePlay? Tap SharePlay to start the synced viewing.
Step 1: Join the FaceTime call by tapping the generated link or via the video call notification. Tap Join.
Step 2: When the host starts playing content, you will see a bar with an Open button. Tap Open.
The Disney+ app will automatically launch.
Step 3: In the app, you will see a pop-up appears. Tap Join SharePlay.
Now the video will start playing in sync.
Note: Remember to enable SharePlay for FaceTime, you can check it via: Setting > FaceTime > SharePlay > turn on the toggle.
Before started, make sure that you're signed into your Apple TV user profile with your Apple ID.
Step 1: Answer the FaceTime call on your iPhone/iPad.
Step 2: With the Apple TV remote on hand, press and hold the TV Control Center button.
Step 3: As the Control Center menu appear, select SharePlay > Start on Apple TV.
Step 4: Back to your iPhone/iPad, tap Confirm.
Step 5: Select Accept on your Apple TV. This time is for join the SharePlay session.
Step 6: Confirm on your iPhone/iPad again.
If you wish to use a Mac device to watch Disney Plus together, try a watch party extension. The tool allows people to use a browser for viewing content.
Simply, you can:
Step 1: Open Google browser on your Mac and add Teleparty.
Step 2: Open Disney+ and log into your account.
Step 3: Select a movie or TV show. Click the Teleparty icon > Copy Link.
Step 4: Send the link to your friends.
The video will sync and a chat box will appear on the right side of the screen.
More: Your friends should subscribe to Disney Plus also. And they need to Install the Teleparty extension to join.
Let's talk about how to stream Disney+ from iPhone to PC. Use Discord and a screen mirroring app will be helpful.
Step 1: Install Kingshiper Screen Mirroring on your computer.
Step 2: Keep your iPhone and the PC in the same WiFi.
Step 3: On your iPhone, open Control Center > Screen Mirroring > select the PC name.
Step 4: Once your iPhone screen is mirrored to the PC, open Disney+ app.
Step 5: Launch Discord on the computer.
Step 6: Join a voice channel and start a video call.
Step 7: Click Share Your Screen > Applications > select the iPhone screen with Disney+ app opened.
Step 8: Click Go Live.
Q: Can I screen share Disney+ via FaceTime instead of using SharePlay?
No, you cannot simply screen share Disney+ via FaceTime.
Due to DRM protections, screen sharing Disney+ over FaceTime is unreliable, often resulting in blacked-out video or no audio.
Q: How to Disable Disable Shareplay on Apple TV for Disney+?
Turn off "Shared with You" in Settings.
Or you can sign out of your Apple ID: Settings > Users and Accounts > select the profile > Remove User from Apple TV
Q: Can You Share Play the Same Disney Plus Account?
Yes. However, that account allows simultaneous streaming on up to four devices.
