Why Screen Recording Stop Automatically?

Whether you're using recorders like OBS or Xbox Game Bar, there is a chance that recording stops automatically.

That's discouraging. What is the reason? Understanding the reason is key to solving it.

Here's a list.

1. Insufficient or Conflicting System Resources

A large topic. But let's go over the troubleshooting.

CPU overload

1) Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.

2) In the Performance tab, you can see the CPU status and highest-consuming applications.

3) End those that are not related to screen recording so you can free up the CPU.

CPU overload can cause screen recording to stop automatically. Because recording software like OBS or Windows Game Bar relies heavily on CPU resources to capture video. If there is no much resources, the recorder will unable to handle the process and stop.

Out of Storage Space

This is a major reason that stop recording. Please note that a 1080p recording can take away 4-8G per hour of recording.

And the screen recorder is designed to stop the process if there is no space.

How to check the storable space on PC?

1) Press Windows key + E to open File Explorer.

2) Click on This PC.

3) The info details are listed.

Interfered By Anti-virus Software

In some cases, antivirus software may misidentify screen recording as abnormal, leading to process termination.

To fix it, you can run the screen recorder as administrator.

2. Recording Permission

The native screen recorder that comes with the system, such as Xbox Game Bar, only support front-end applications by default and is designed to focus on direct rending. That is to say, when you switch windows or return to the desktop, the tool will automatically stop recording.

Besides, when you record background apps, system-level screens, or unsupported applications, the process will end as well.

3. Compatibility Exception

This problem often occurs in gaming app and those use full screen. The incompatibility between graphics card (a hardware component that renders and displays images, videos, and animations on a monitor.) and apps will definitely affect screen recording.

4. Driver Program Exception

This issue refers to an error or crash and can happen during driver installation, operation, or when the driver interacts with the operating system or applications.

Old or damaged drivers can cause the recording process to stop. And you will see an automatic termination.

5. Battery Saver Mode

As you can see that screen recording can lead to device overheating. Conceivably, the recorder requires a large amount of power supply. If you set the device as 'Low Power Mode', the system will stop the process.
